Roosevelt Award

The Roosevelt Award is given to a Staff or Board member who has given excellent delivery of service and/or support to the USO of Hampton Roads and Central Virginia. This award recognizes someone who has helped the USOHRCV to continuously achieve our mission “to enhance the quality of life of the U.S. Armed Forces personnel and their families.

April 2012

Exhibiting exraordinary volunteer support for the wounded warriors, medical hold, and transient personnel

at the Navy Mobilization Processing Site at Naval Station Norfolk. The Submarine Officers’ Spouses Association

has been recognized as The USO of Hampton Roads and Central Virginia’s Roosevelt winners for the month af May.

Collectively their “home-cooking” smiling military support service and compassion for active duty military sacrifices reflects

their generous contribution to enhancing the quality of life of US armed service personnel and their families.

 

March 2012

The staff of The Military Newspapers of Virginia, for their exceptional professionalism and extraordinary communications acumen is this month’s Roosevelt Award recipient. Their exacting and timely support to the USOHRCV marketing campaign, 2012 “Tribute to Wounded Warriors” Gala, and focused social media guidance has been nothing short of amazing. Lead by Publisher Laura Baxter, we are proud to honor MNV.

February 2012: Lauren Harden

It is with great pleasure that Lauren Harden, Center Manager, is selected as the February USOHRCV Roosevelt recipient. Her tenacity and focused leadership allows her to serve as the central point of contact for the USOHRCV Center Directors in helping them serve U.S. Armed Services personnel and their families. Lauren makes things happen and is dedicated to Service Member Quality of Life.

January 2012: Tricia Riggs

For her compassionate and aggressive support to the McGuire VA Medical Center, Fisher House, and Warrior Transition Unit, Tricia Riggs, Richmond International Airport Center Director, is this months recipient of the Roosevelt Award. Her weekly visits to the service members and their families has significantly improved their quality of life and helped in their rehabilitation. By providing needed supplies and restaurant gift cards, she has extended our outreach to those who need support.

December 2011: Teresa Uminn

Besides her “normal” work at her Center, Teresa goes above and beyond every year for the Holiday Party. Transporting Santa’s Village from Naval Station, getting it all set up, and then the tear down and return by truck to Naval Station that night. Everyone works hard on this event, but she always goes “above and beyond”

November 2011: Danis Lensch & Josie Berry

Danis Lensch and Josie Berry are the Roosevelt selectees for November 2011. Their extraordinary attention to detail, amazing knowledge of USOHRCV policies and procedures, and aggressive professional skills has prepared the USOHRCV for it’s tri-annual USO charter review.

October 2011: Doug Snead

Team oriented and technologically astute epitomize Doug Snead’s contributions to the USO of Hampton Roads and Central Virginia. He earned this month’s “Roosevelt” Award due to his efforts to upgrade our communication capabilities at no cost, while providing new e-mail conventions and keeping all 11 centers computer ready.

September 2011: Haley Livesay

Since joining the USO of Hampton Roads and Central Virginia, Haley Livesay (Navy Wife) has aggressively led our effort to maximize communications regarding USOHRCV events and services.Her commitment and aggressiveness has expanded our facebook reach and media availability. Likewise, her involvement with local Wounded Warriors has positively impacted on their ability to remain strong contributors to the military community.

August 2011: Ann Morris

Due to her enthusiastic support of Wounded Warriors and Med-hold personnel at the Navy Mobilization Processing Site on Naval Station Norfolk, Ann Morris was honored with the Roosevelt Award. Her unboundless energy and overwhelming compassion for the visitors to her Welcome Center makes her the standard for other to emulate in delivering goodness to military members.

July 2011: Holly Gunter

Holly Gunter posses a unique blend of organizational skills and personal charisma. She has quickly partnered with the Newport News Airport Team. Additionally, she is actively involved in the potential expansion of the center and has already expanded the hours of operation.

June 2011: Mary Moyer

Mary Moyer, Central Virginia Operations Manager, is providing exceptional professional support to the USOHRCV centers at Fort Lee, Fort Eustis, and Richmond International Airport. Her personal drive and enthusiasm provided Quality of Life services to over 22,000 military members and their families during May 2011.

May 2011: Kasinda Thomas

Kasinda has been an instrumental part of increasing the awareness of our new USO center at Ft Lee. She has lead the charge of USOHRCV efforts with Ft Lee’s first Celtic Festival, personally planned Miss America’s visit to Ft Lee, assisted the 49th Quarter Master group with their first Easter egg hunt and their 10k race. Kasinda’s dedication to her job has made the presence known of the USO center on Fort Lee.

April 2011: Tricia Riggs

Tricia was instrumental in developing a “Volunteer of the Month” program which will be used for all 11 USOHRCV centers. Her aggressive recognition of her volunteers reflects her professionalism and team work ethic.
