Military members are treated to warm smiles, goodies and USO Care Packages which contain prepaid international phone cards, snacks, sunscreen, disposable cameras, toiletries, compact discs and other items requested by service men and women.

Military Appreciation Day at The Virginia Zoo

As part of the yearly Fleet Week festivities in Hampton Roads, USOHRCV and the Virginia Zoo honor all active duty military and their families by providing free admission to the Zoo, children’s games, inflatable rides and military demonstrations. Please visit the zoo’s website: www.virginiazoo.org

USO Holiday Party

The USO of Hampton Roads and Central Virginia hosts an annual holiday party and provides food, games, and entertainment for all military families in the Hampton Roads area. Family members of deployed military personnel have the opportunity to record video messages to loved ones after the show. The recorded messages are sent on video to bring comfort and a piece of home to deployed units overseas.

United Way Day of Caring

The kick off day for the United Way/CFC Campaign brings the USO together with the community to help those in need. Each year the USOHRCV staff and volunteers spend the day with patients at the local VA Hospital in Hampton hosting a picnic, playing games and providing entertainment to bring a “touch of home” to those who once served this great nation.

Adopt-A-Serviceperson

For over 18 years the USO of Hampton Roads and Central Virginia has offered the “Adopt-A-Serviceperson” program during Thanksgiving to provide a “home for the holiday” atmosphere for single soldiers who cannot be with their loved ones during this time of year. This USO program pairs host families throughout Hampton Roads with single military service personnel to spend Thanksgiving Day together.

Operation Holiday Spirit

Each December the USOHRCV assists local military families who are facing difficult times. Families are referred to the USO by the service member’s command, Military Family Support Centers, or outside agencies and are often low ranking, single parents, or have children with special needs. These families are then “adopted” by local individuals and organizations who buy gifts and food to help these families have a happy holiday season.
